Deutsche Post agrees with Ver.di on plans to integrate DHL
Deutsche Post, the German postal service operator, has reached an agreement with Ver.di, the trade union for the service sector in Germany, regarding the integration of its logistics subsidiary DHL into Deutsche Post World Net.
It is not yet clear how many jobs will be lost as a result of the plan; according to earlier reports, 1,600 of the 10,000 jobs at the company in Germany could be affected. Neither Deutsche Post nor Ver.di has confirmed these figures.
Deutsche Post, union agree broad terms for DHL integration, incl job losses

BONN (AFX) – Deutsche Post AG and service workers union ver.di have agreed on broad terms for the integration of subsidiary DHL into the parent company, including that there will be job losses, a Post spokesman said.
‘Both sides are agreed that the integration cannot be carried out without job losses,’ Post spokesman Juergen Blohm said.
How many jobs will be shed is not yet clear, he said.
Earlier reports suggested up to 1,600 jobs could be at risk in Germany.
Details of the integration must now be agreed over the next several months.
Deutsche Post plans to bring together all its logistic activities under the umbrella of its courier unit DHL.
The operation means 4,000 fewer jobs will be needed in the logistics sector, but most of the employees affected will be found other positions within the group.
On Friday, ver.di and Deutsche Post agreed that job losses at DHL would be ‘socially acceptable’, meaning another job would be offered to as many departing staff as possible.
