UPU: supporting postal operators in their sustainability efforts

Bishar A. Hussein, Director General of the Universal Postal Union, has released a statement on World Environment Day, 5 June, renewing the organisation’s commitment to sustainability.

He said: “With 1 million species facing extinction, the world needs to act quickly in order to protect the world’s precious biodiversity. If we fail we are courting a natural disaster impacting our lives and the generations that follow.

“The Universal Postal Union (UPU) is playing its part. We support postal operators globally in their dedicated efforts to confront waste and reduce their ecological footprint. Our Online Solution for Carbon Analysis and Reporting encourages practices that are socially responsible and sustainable.

“UPU is also climate neutral and we continue to work with our many partners in the UN system to help achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

On World Environment Day, the UPU affirms its longstanding commitment to helping to protect the environment. It’s time for us to act. It’s time for nature.”
