New partnership provides more Scottish households access to online on-demand groceries

Co-op has partnered with same-day home delivery specialists, Gophr, to further expand the roll-out of its online shop in Scotland and increase the number of slots available for shoppers.

The retailer ramps up home delivery in Scotland with the partnership live in six Co-op stores in Glasgow this month (October), before rolling out to more than 50 stores in towns and cities across Scotland over the coming weeks, making thousands more slots available across Scotland in areas also including: Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness and Perth.

Deliveries can be made up to 4km from the store and in as little as two hours through Co-op’s own online shop. Customers can choose from around 4,500 products, and can track their deliveries in real time. In addition, deliveries are free from the new stores to offer the service for the first eight weeks.

Grocery items are picked by Co-op colleagues in the local stores which act as micro-distribution hubs locally and so the high street shop benefits any up-tick in online demand. A free Click & Collect service is also available. The convenience retailer launched its own online shop in March last year and accelerated its roll-out this year as demand for online convenience grew. The Co-op is on track to offer online shopping – through its own online shop and with partners – from more than 650 stores UK-wide by the end of the year.

Matt Arrigonie, Co-op’s Online Operations Manager, said: “We continue to look for new ways to innovate and expand access to our products and services to deliver a truly compelling offer for consumers, conveniently. By collaborating with partners we can offer further flexibility and choice to meet community needs for shopping locally with ease, speed and safety. Delivering what our Members and customers want, when and where they need it.”

Graham Smith, Head of Delivery Partnerships, Gophr, said: “We are passionate about making deliveries more convenient, and believe our approach of working in a fair and transparent way is a great fit with Co-op, and will give many more communities and households across Scotland access to online on-demand groceries.”
