Swiss Post, German Deutsche Bahn to cooperate in road fleet management

Switzerland’s postal services provider Swiss Post and German railways Deutsche Bahn AG have set up a joint venture, aimed at stepping up their cooperation in the field of road fleet management, both companies said on September 19, 2005.

The companies set up the joint venture through their fleet management subsidiaries Mobility Solutions AG and DB Fuhrpark Service GmbH. The joint venture is aimed at achieving synergy effects and encouraging know-how exchange between both companies.

Mobility Solutions was set up at the beginning of 2005 and manages Swiss Post’s 20,000 road vehicles. DB Fuhrpark manages around 100,000 vehicles, including DB’s 27,000 road vehicles.

The joint venture is still subject to approval by the competition authorities in Switzerland and Germany.

[Editor’s note: Swiss Post saw its net profit rise by 10.5 pct year-on-year to 421 mln Swiss francs ($330.1 mln/269.7 mln euro) in the first half of 2005, the Swiss News Digest reported on August 24, 2005.]
