Poczta Polska to merge with PKO BP?

The country’s largest retail bank, PKO BP, and Poczta Polska(PP) national postal service may soon become one company, if Law and Justice (PiS)’s plans are implemented, writes Rzeczpospolita daily. According to the newspaper, some PiS representatives have already discussed the possibility of a merger with PP managers. “We cannot comment on these proposals, but PKO BP is our natural partner so we will certainly co-operate more closely,” said Marcin Anaszewicz, spokesman for the PP. Marek Klucinski, the PKO BP’s spokesman said that a joint task team has been analysing possibilities for closer co-operation between the companies for several weeks. The PP employers (over 100,000) may have the final say. The unionists say their company should have an equal position in the negotiation process and add they would oppose any attempts at handing over the retail network to the PKO BP. Civic Platform (PO), the PiS likely coalition partner is also sceptical about the merger.
