DHL opens NZD10m distribution centre in New Zealand
DEUTSCHE Post unit DHL Danzas Air & Ocean has underpinned its commitment to New Zealand by opening a $10 million distribution hub near Auckland airport.
A DHL unit separately entered into an express freight joint venture with New Zealand Post this year.
John Key, the National Party’s finance spokesman, was critical of the courier deal, but he was chosen to open the DHL centre yesterday.
The distribution centre, which is about the size of two rugby fields, is one of a number of new facilities in the upper North Island.
Fonterra has built a big distribution centre in Hamilton; Australian logistics company Linfox has moved to a purpose-built building in Mangere, and Mainfreight is building a large new Auckland depot.
The DHL distribution centre was developed in response to increasing demand for the company’s logistics services, DHL Danzas Air & Ocean New Zealand managing director Brian Broom said.
“It’s a sign that we are growing up as a nation and starting to develop international-class facilities for New Zealand customers — it illustrates the changing face of New Zealand business.”
The building has been developed by Dominion Funds, in conjunction with DHL Danzas, and is leased to DHL Danzas on a long-term basis.
