PostPlus opens two new premises to cope with “dramatic” increase in parcel volumes
PostPlus has described how a renewed surge in e-commerce traffic had led to its moving to larger depot in Amsterdam as well as adding a new office in Miami. The announcement comes just months after the company revealed that it had seen an eight-fold increase in turnover in the two years since its launch. Chief Operating Officer Wanne van Egmond said that a surge in extra business meant that it was now handling three million parcels and packets each month on behalf of clients. He added that PostPlus had almost doubled the number of employees which it employed in the Netherlands since the start of the year as well as extending its working week in order to process consignments even faster. “As we add services and clients, we need to ensure that we can maintain the high standards of service which we have established. “That demands that we constantly assess our physical infrastructure, something which has prompted us to open these new sites to complement those already in operation. “We have quickly outgrown our principal depot in Amsterdam and so have moved to a larger facility nearby. “However, the decision is not simply based on size alone but the fact that, together with having more staff and extended schedules, our sorting, customs clearance and shipping capabilities are even better than before. “Our new Miami premises are recognition of our increasing workload in North America. It is also another key strategic step forward. “We also know that the city has become an important gateway for shipments destined for Latin America and as those volumes which we handle increase still further, it will play a vital role in our ability to support clients.” Mr van Egmond outlined how PostPlus’ new Dutch depot at Hoofddorp – 10 minutes from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport – was 1500 square metres, 80 per cent larger than its previous site. He stated that the rise in volumes had prompted the company to extend its working week to six days and to increase the workforce at its Amsterdam location from eight to 14. Mr van Egmond explained that, with speed of vital importance for its growing number of e-commerce clients, the changes would enable PostPlus to process shipments in a maximum of 48 hours. The office in Miami marks a significant development as it is the first PostPlus premises in the United States. It becomes the company’s fourth international site, adding to facilities in Amsterdam, Tallinn and Guangzhou. The company, which was set up by former executives from Estonia Post, Post11 and some of Europe’s leading private sector logistics operators, specialises in shipping parcels, packets and printed material to Scandinavia, the Baltic states and many Eastern European territories.
