Magdeburg is another important step for us in the area of sustainability
“Magdeburg is another important step for us in the area of sustainability,” explains Harald Schnetgätze, General Area Manager of the East Region at Hermes Germany. “From now on we will be delivering emissions-free to more than 30,000 Magdeburg residents in the city center. Making the last mile increasingly green is an essential topic for us. We have therefore done everything we can to implement the changeover this year. I am proud that we managed to do this parallel to the challenging Christmas business. ”
Hermes Germany has been delivering completely emission-free to large parts of downtown Berlin since the summer of this year and has created a blueprint for sustainable city logistics in German cities with the concept. With Magdeburg, the parcel logistics company is keeping its promise to allow other inner cities to follow this model.
The emission-free area in Magdeburg stretches from the Elbe in the east, Albert-Vater-Strasse in the north, the Westring to the Sudenburger Wuhne in the south. In addition to the over 30,000 residents of Magdeburg, the 12 ParcelShops in the region are also served with zero emissions.
“All of this is made possible by a very well-located delivery base in the immediate vicinity of the city,” explains Harald Schnetgätze. “From here, the eight cargo bikes – six cargo bikes from ONOMOTION and two from citkar – can go straight on a delivery tour and have very short distances. The larger quantities of shipments that go directly to the ParcelShops are carried out with the e-vans. ”At the distribution center, 100 percent green electricity is used. This means that the entire delivery process for Magdeburg’s city center is completely emission-free.
