Belgian Post to open 120 service agencies this summer
Belgian Post plans to open 120 services agencies this summer as part of its cost-saving restructuring of its postal network. The agencies offer basic postal services.
The post office, which already had about 40 such agencies, has opened 40 new “Points Poste” in recent weeks and expects to increase this figure to 120 outlets by the end of the summer.
The postal service agencies are located within retail outlets such as supermarkets and newsagents but also at railway stations and banks. The post office is targeting about 170 Points Poste by the end of 2006.
Belgian Post CEO Johnny Thijs said: “I’m delighted that our rollout of the Points Poste programme is developing so well within the planned timescale. Hundreds of candidates have presented themselves, and customers are showing great satisfaction with this retailing concept.”
At the same time, the company is restructuring its core network of 1,300 post offices into regions, offering longer opening hours at larger branches and reducing opening times at small post offices.
