Latvia Post unveils plans to expand its parcel locker network

In August 2023, Latvijas Pasts will install the 200th parcel locker in its parcel locker network; next year, the number of parcel lockers will increase to 420.

As the popularity of parcel lockers continues to grow among the population and the number of items sent via parcel lockers increases, Latvijas Pasts has launched procurement for the purchase of 200 new parcel lockers. For Latvijas Pasts, this is an important step towards the expansion of the availability of the service throughout the country.

The ambitious parcel locker network expansion project will continue next year as well: by the end of 2024, Latvijas Pasts will install another 200 parcel posts in strategically advantageous locations for customers.

The 200th parcel locker will be located near the LIDL retail store at Sporta Street 10 in Riga and will be conveniently available to customers at any time. This is an important reference point for Latvijas Pasts since the purchase of the parcel locker network in 2019. The demand of Latvijas Pasts customers for parcel locker services has quadrupled in these years and continues to grow not only in cities but also in the regions where residents increasingly choose to receive items using parcel locker services.

“The placement of the 200th parcel locker and future plans for the expansion of the parcel locker network emphasize the company’s constant commitment to progress and dynamically move forward so that the services of Latvijas Pasts become even more accessible and convenient for customers. Despite the crises and the pandemic experienced in these years, Latvijas Pasts has established a long-term vision for the development of the company’s parcel locker network to become an increasingly competitive player in providing this service. Also, work continues on the modernization of various processes and services, introducing new technological solutions for faster sorting and delivery of items,” Mārcis Vilcāns, Chairman of the Board of Latvijas Pasts, points out.

Latvijas Pasts not only continues to expand the network of parcel lockers but also is constantly improving its functionality. As of this year, recipients can receive multiple items in a single compartment of the parcel locker, even if the items have been delivered from different senders. Customers of Latvijas Pasts will soon have the option to send items to the recipient’s residence address via parcel locker services.

According to Sandra Rogaļska, Head of the Postal Terminal Services Department of Latvijas Pasts: “It is no secret that there is a lot of competition in parcel locker services, making it even more satisfying that, despite the crises and the pandemic, which significantly affected our parcel network locker expansion plans, we can now celebrate the installation of the 200th parcel locker. Our goal is not only to double the number of existing parcel lockers from 200 to over 400 in a short period but also to expand their functionality as much as possible. There will soon be the possibility to send items for courier delivery, as well as to choose the most suitable parcel locker, where all items intended for the addressee can be conveniently received at all times. As a result, we will be able to strengthen our position as the broadest network in Latvia in terms of the receipt of items.”

The amount of the planned procurement reaches 6 million euro, and it is expected to conclude on the 28th of August. Information on the procurement launched by Latvijas Pasts for the expansion of the parcel locker network is available in the EIS procurement system.

Latvijas Pasts is the only company in Latvia that offers both indoor parcel locker services, which are very important for items that require a certain temperature regime, without exposing them to fluctuations in the surrounding environment, and outdoor parcel lockers, ensuring the collection and sending of items at any time of the day. Among the parcel lockers of Latvijas Pasts, there is also a parcel tower in Pļavnieki, Riga, which is the only one of its kind in Latvia. It is an efficient and modern parcel delivery machine with an automated item delivery function, which has space to store up to 500 items at a time.

Latvijas Pasts acquired the parcel locker network in August 2019, significantly expanding the item delivery and sending options, which are ensured by a wide network of service provision locations, postmen, and courier services, as well as a network of Circle K gas stations and over 195 parcel lockers throughout Latvia.
