Austrian Post: city logistics of the future needs smart and, above all, green solutions

Austrian Post recently put the first five test vehicles of the new CargoScooter from the Viennese manufacturer Jumug into operation at its Innsbruck delivery bases.

The electrically powered vehicles offer significantly more cargo space than conventional e-bikes and, due to their compact size, are particularly suitable for use in metropolitan areas. If the test is successful, Austrian Post intends to expand its e-fleet to include these vehicles. “The city logistics of the future needs smart and, above all, green solutions! With the Jumug CargoScooters, our delivery drivers are emission-free and can transport more shipments and at the same time reduce stopovers at depots. Due to the narrow design, access to the front door is possible, which is an enormous advantage, especially for large apartment buildings,” explains Peter Umundum, Director of the Board of Management for Parcel & Logistics, Austrian Post AG. ABOUT JUMUG CARGOSCOOTERJumug Vehicles GmbH was founded in 2022 and is based in Vienna. Jumug develops and produces CargoScooters, emission-free special vehicles for urban parcel delivery. The CargoScooters from Jumug are bicycles according to the Motor Vehicle Act (KFG), but at the same time they are characterized by their design, their load volume and their payload as an optimal means of transport in delivery logistics on the last mile.

They have proven to be significantly more productive than comparable vehicles when used by parcel delivery services. At the same time, they drive silently, emission-free and consume only a fraction of the space compared to conventional vans. In addition, a CargoScooter contains only ten percent of the raw materials and only two percent of the battery chemicals of an electric delivery van.
