DHL expands its presence in the Swedish market
DHL plans to expand its network for out-of-home (OOH) delivery in Sweden by around 1,000 parcel lockers in 2024 and will use the white-label solution from partner iBoxen, among others.
The expansion of DHL’s offering is in line with the company’s global strategy to further strengthen its capabilities and services in the e-commerce sector, while underlining its long-term commitment to Sweden. In addition, it is planned to further advance the electrification of the last mile, introduce new services and further increase awareness of the brand and the service portfolio in the market. Ultimately, the aim is to further improve the quality of service for online shoppers and to take into account changing shopping and shipping preferences.
“E-commerce is constantly and dynamically evolving, and we at DHL are evolving with it. With the expansion of our presence in the Swedish market, we want to raise awareness among consumers in the long term. The introduction of a significant number of parcel lockers is the first step in our efforts to increase the availability of our services and provide a better offer to e-retailers and consumers. We want to be the first choice for shippers and recipients,” says Robert Zander, CEO DHL Freight Sweden & Nordics.
The trend towards online shopping continues unabated. The number of shipments and online shoppers is steadily increasing. This is confirmed, among other things, by the latest parcel index of the Swedish Association of Transport Companies, which recorded an increase in parcel volumes of almost 9% for 2023. In Sweden, where service points have traditionally been the first choice for customers, consumer behavior has changed in recent years, and there is a growing demand for different delivery options, with an increasing preference for parcel lockers. The changing consumer preferences and requirements are driven by various factors, such as flexibility, price, level of service, availability and sustainability.
“With our e-commerce initiative in Sweden, we are responding to the growing customer demand for different OOH solutions. Thanks to our expertise, our high quality of service and our local network in both B2B and B2C, combined with our extensive international offering, we have a solid basis to further expand our services and ultimately increase customer satisfaction,” says Robert Zander, CEO DHL Freight Sweden & Nordics.
