FedEx goes for gold in Paris this summer

FedEx has put in place a robust action plan to handle anticipated congestion across Paris this July, August and September. Eser Sezek, Vice President Ground Operations France at FedEx, explains some of the tactics that the business is deploying.

“During this exciting time for the city, we’re confident we will continue to deliver an outstanding customer experience with a robust and resilient action plan. The main changes we’ll be making this summer are an increase in our operational capacity, optimisation of our services, and a rigorous method of monitoring progress.

Paris will experience greater levels of traffic, and there’ll be a number of diversions in place, so we need to be agile enough to handle that situation. We’ve redesigned our delivery routes to mitigate the impact of traffic restrictions, and our dedicated control tower will monitor all activities to ensure compliance.

“The increased capacity is vital to our success as it will allow us to handle potential congestion, ensuring our delivery schedules remain on track. We’ve also set up urban micro hubs to support the flow of parcels through our network and are promoting our ‘Hold at Location’ option to customers. Together this will give our customers the flexibility to collect their parcel at a time that suits them, and we’re enhancing our FedEx stations to make sure we’re equipped to handle more parcels over the counter.

“Importantly for the final mile, we’re deploying more cargo bikes to navigate any restricted areas without adding to the existing traffic congestion. Our cargo bike couriers will be able to reach parts of the city that would be inaccessible to larger vehicles.

“For FedEx, this period represents a marathon, not a sprint. We’ve done the training and the planning, and I’m excited to be able to show our customers what we can achieve. We’ll be closely monitoring the strategy for the duration and making any necessary adjustments. We’ve been engaged with relevant authorities to help develop our action plan, and we’ll stay in close contact with our customers to provide the best possible service.”
