New DHL Logistics location in Ludwigsau
DHL Exel Supply Chain is constructing a new distribution center for mail-order customers in Ludwigsau near Bad Hersfeld. The center will deliver to customers in Germany and Europe starting summer 2007. Construction is expected to start at the beginning of February this year.
The new distribution center will be operated by DHL subsidiary GPL a mail-order logistics company handling bulky and transport-sensitive goods. GPL has belonged to the contract logistics division of DHL since 2005 and has been under the umbrella brand of DHL Exel Supply Chain since the beginning of the year.
With the decision for the Mecklar-Meckbach district in Ludwigsau, DHL is banking on a sustainable logistics property that is optimally tailored to customer requirements and that offers possibilities to expand accordingly to the growing mail-order business. The innovative realization of the storage and handling area will allow efficient execution of all processes, including value-added services such as packaging or the prepackaging of a range of goods. Investor, developer and owner of the property is the ProLogis company. There are 35,000 square meters of indoor space, and the property in Ludwigsau has a total area of around 100,000 square meters offering sufficient space for additional storage and packaging areas.
Dr. Stefan Kurrle, responsible for DHL Exel Supply Chain in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, describes the new location as a logical step in a growing industry: “We want to expand our mail-order business and offer our customers innovative solutions, which enhance the quality and profitability of their logistics processes. The Ludwigsau location offers ideal prerequisites for implementing our concepts of storage and distribution of heavy goods.”
The logistics center will replace the previous property, located in nearby Bad Hersfeld. Its lease contract will end in summer. The business in Bad Hersfeld as well as the employees will be transferred to Ludwigsau.
