PO steps up fulfilment
The Post Office has stepped up its efforts to provide fulfilment
services for e-tailers, giving a further signal of the company’s
intention to become a major player in the e-commerce arena.
The integrated home shopping service, which it announced at the end of
last week, will offer retailers a range of services from CRM to direct
marketing and Internet security solutions.
While the PO’s home shopping marketing director Nigel Moore was keen to
stress that the package will be open to both bricks-and-mortar
retailers and e-tailers alike, the focus on e-commerce was clear.
“The PO is embracing the Internet and is determined to help retailers
use it as a seamless sales and delivery medium,” he said.
Moore claimed that the PO had spent tens of millions of pounds on e-
commerce services as part of an overall investment of around £200m,
which would allow it to become the country’s number one home shopping
solutions provider.
The Post Office is already trialling some of its 18,000 branches for
use as alternative addresses for parcel deliveries.
The anticipated wide-scale adoption of digital signatures, offered by
Royal Mail Viacode, will likely further streamline fulfilment
processes, remotely identifying those involved in the chain.
