Romanian Post undergoes major restructuring

Romanian Post (Posta Romana) said that it wanted to dispel any rumours regarding possible job losses after a government decision in October to reorganize the service ahead of full liberalisation.

Posta Romana said that much of the reorganization meant focusing on the best use of personel which could result in transfers, depending on experience and training, to ensure it ran efficiently. The restructuring will run until 2012 and is aimed at making Posta Romana more efficient.

Romanian Post, responsible for the universal service in Romania, currently employs in excess of 35,600 people and said the changes involve not only the reorganization of the network and services, but also the optimization of processes and reallocation of a number of employees from less profitable areas to ones where there is greater sales potential.

The main competitors to Posta Romana are Alo Curier, Curiero, Cargusfor traditional mail & parcels, with DHL, amongst others, providing local express post.
