Residents urged to submit views on future of Post Office

The Business and Enterprise Committee, chaired by local MP Peter Luff, is urging members of the public to submit views which could help shape the future of the Post Office.
Now substantially reduced to 11,500 branches, the Post Office Network has been forced to evolve by making many of its services available online.
A new online forum set up by the Committee seeks to discover how individuals use the Post Office, and what aspects of its service are important to them.
The results of the forum will then feed into the Committee’s inquiry Post Offices: Securing their Future, the conclusions of which have been requested by the Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Department by summer.
Luff said: “The government has asked us to look at how best to secure the future of the Post Office Network. We want to extend this opportunity to every customer of the network.
“After all, it is the individual users of the Post Office, not just the government or parliament, who should shape the service to suit their needs.
“The independent, all-party nature of the select committee system means the public can be confident their views will be taken into account when we report in the summer.”
The web forum, at www.forums.parliament.uk/post-office-future, will be open until 10 March.
