FRANCE: NEW FOLLOW-UP SERVICE FROM LA POSTE

The French postal service, La Poste, is launching a new service which will
enable senders to check when their post was delivered. A bar-coded sticker,
costing FFr 6 each, can be placed on the object to be sent, its delivery
date can be recorded and then checked on La Poste’s Internet site, on
Minitel, or Audiotel. La Poste will invest EUR 150mn over three years in
order to equip its 90,000 postmen and women with individual mobile
electronic terminals, so they can register the delivery themselves. The post
group estimates this market could reach a volume of 40mn by the end of 2001,
and some 300mn within 5 years. The special stickers can also be bought in a
book of 5 for FFr 20.
