Post Office and DX Group enter delivery agreement
Post Office Ltd announced a contract with private mail company DX Group to enable DX’s customers to collect items from Post Office branches that could not be delivered.
Post Office has announced a contract with DX Group to enable DX’s customers to collect items from Post Office branches that could not be delivered.
Post Office says the deal underlines their commitment to seeking new business opportunities to ensure a sustainable branch network. As well as a fixed contract charge, the Post Office will also receive a fee from DX for every item delivered to one of its branches.
The Post Office Collect service enables mail and packets that could not be delivered first time, either because the item was too big to go through the letterbox or required a signature, to be taken to a local Post Office branch where the item can be collected at the customer’s convenience.
The service builds on Royal Mail’s Local Collect service launched in 2001 – where people can choose for an item to be redelivered to a local Post Office, if more convenient for them – or Parcelforce Worldwide’s Convenient Delivery service, where items that require a signature are taken to a branch to avoid the need for redelivery.
DX Group is the first private company to reach an agreement to use the Post Office Collect service. It will initially be launched in 92 Greater London branches in May before being rolled out nationwide later in the summer.
Alan Cook, managing director of Post Office, said: “We want to retain and win as much business as we can in order to ensure a sustainable Post Office branch network.
“We have expanded our range of services in recent years to include a variety of financial products as well as travel and telecoms services, including broadband.
“With more than 11,500 Post Office branches providing the Collect service, we are ideally placed to provide alternative delivery solutions that are convenient and easily accessible to customers and we will continue to assess new opportunities.”
