Swiss Post has reduced the number of weight classes available to its customers.
Swiss Post has now implemented the measures, originally announced in March, reducing the price of many of its letters by up to 20% as of 1 July. All letter prices will include VAT.
A Swiss Post statement said: “Customers can look forward to price advantages of around CHF200m per year overall. Consumers and the economy will benefit as a result. The main measures involve a comprehensive price reduction for most business customers, with Swiss Post picking up the tab for the new VAT rate for letters weighing up to 100g. All business customers who are able to claim back VAT will benefit from price reductions of around 7% on items weighing less than 100g.
“In addition, large letters up to B4 format will be as much as 20% cheaper. Large A Mail letters weighing up to 500g will now cost CHF2 while items weighing between 501-1000g will cost CHF4. The 250-gram weight limit will no longer exist. Furthermore, registered mail will be less expensive. In future, all registered items weighing up to 500 g will cost CHF5. The format and weight limits – which are already the most favourable in Europe – will be further simplified.
“A regular A Mail letter weighing up to 100g will still cost CHF1 and a B Mail letter of up to 100g will cost CHF0.85. These prices were introduced on 1 January 2004. In real terms, prices have remained at the same level for the last ten years. In international comparison, Swiss Post’s services are already among the most cost-efficient.”
