Bulgarian Post to lay off 10% of employees

About 10% of staff of “Bulgarian Posts” Jsc will be laid off in the coming months, CEO Milen Keremedchiev announced. Keremedchiev, who was a Deputy Foreign Minister in the Stanishev government and took over the Bulgarian postal company in mid 2009, said his plan was aimed at optimizing the expenditures.

He claims that Bulgarian Posts had been totally mismanaged before he took over as it had a profit of BGN 3 M in the beginning of 2009, and a loss of BGN 4 M in March 2009.

The layoffs he plans will affect mostly the administration of the company. In his words, they will not affect the services offered in the 2,900 branches of Bulgarian Post around the country.

Keremedchiev pointed out that 40% of the revenue of the company comes from providing Internet and mobile services.

Starting in May 2010, Bulgarian Post is launching a pilot project for a “one-stop shop”, i.e. offering all of its services at each individual counter.
