Canada Post to outsource call centre jobs

Canada Post is planning to outsource call centre jobs in a move that will impact about 300 employees across the country, reports Canwest. The article continues:

Part of a plan to reduce costs in an era of declining mail volumes, the cuts are expected to begin by the first quarter of 2011.

“Our current in-house approach to call centres is costly, significantly more than the industry standard,” spokesman John Caines said.

Management met with staff at its five call centres in Edmonton, Fredericton, Antigonish, Ottawa and Winnipeg to break the news.

Caines said contract staff have a year’s notice that the change is coming.

While a growing number of call centre jobs are being outsourced to places like India, Caines said Canada Post will be looking to keep the jobs in Canada.
