Consignia's Response To Lord Sawyer's Review Of Industrial Relations In Royal Mail

Following the publication today of Lord Sawyer’s independent review into industrial relations in Royal Mail, Consignia’s Chief Executive John Roberts, said: “We, with the leadership of the union, asked for a truly independent review to help us to find practical ways of eradicating a culture of damaging industrial action.

We now have that report and fully accept the comments made by Lord Sawyer and his colleagues.

We also place on record our thanks to Lord Sawyer for his work in swiftly compiling a most comprehensive assessment of the current situation.

“The Review Board has addressed issues of vital importance to Royal Mail’s customers and employees.

The report confirms that the stakes are high – the challenges to the business from regulatory actions and increasing competition are real and far reaching and will, unless we stop striking, cost business and jobs.

“We received Lord Sawyer’s review earlier today and will need to consider carefully the detail contained within it.

But we recognise that the report calls for change both within the union and within Royal Mail.

We agree and will now sit down with the CWU to plan our next steps.

“We firmly believe that we can tackle the many challenges ahead and that in the main we have a workforce who share the same aims.

Our customers have every right to expect rapid and effective joint actions to restore service quality and ensure that the UK has a universal postal service fit for the 21st century.” http://www.consignia.com UNS Contact: Consignia plc Group Communications, Tel: 020 7250 2468 (24 hours)
