USPS launches flat-rate options for legal documents

The US Postal Service has launched a new line-up of products tailored for lawyers, finance, real estate and other professionals to mail legal-sized documents. The new Express and Priority Mail options come as part of an expanded Flat Rate offering from the USPS, allowing a single flat-rate price for shipment, even internationally.

The new Express Mail Legal Flat Rate Envelope and Priority Mail Legal Flat Rate Envelope is sized so that important legal-sized documents can be mailed without being folded.

A Priority Mail Flat Rate Padded Envelope is also being offered to provide more cushioning for fragile contents.

Express Mail International will send the new legal envelopes to more than 190 countries in three to five business days on average for the same rate as existing Express Mail Flat Rate envelopes, priced at $26.90 to Canada and $29.95 to other destinations including Mexico.

Priority Mail will send documents to international destinations in six to 10 business days. Pricing for the legal-size envelopes for materials up to four pounds is $11.95 to Canada and Mexico and $13.95 to other international destinations.

Pranab Shah, vice president of global business for USPS, said the new Express Mail International and Priority Mail International flat-rate shipping options offered “tremendous value” for international shipping.

He said: “With the addition of these new flat-rate products and the move to uniform pricing for select Priority Mail envelopes, we’re responding to the popularity of these products while simplifying pricing for customers.”

Along with its flat-rat envelopes, the USPS also offers five Priority Mail Flat Rate Box options for international shipping.
