1. La Poste, the French post office, has just set up a new product called Esipost, which aims to help small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) get involved in electronic commerce. Magali Sauget, commercial director of Esipost, says that many SMEs could trade on the web, but they hesitate to do so, and for a few hundred euros per month the service allows SMEs to set up on-line shops.
Half a dozen SMEs, which notably specialise in the manufacturing of jewels, and video and educational games, and in the sale of car accessories, have already been attracted to this new service. The service creates and hosts an e-commerce site, manages the catalogue and orders, and possibly resolves logistics and delivery problems.

2. In a move to make it easier to small and medium firms to access to the electronic commerce business, La Poste has presented Esipost, a new turnkey service which helps them design and host a merchant site over the Internet, manage their catalogues and orders. The service, which may also handle their logistics and supply problems, is available in return for a few hundred EUR per month, according to the French post office. Many small and medium companies might market their products and services through the Web, but they would not do it as they do not know how to open an on-line boutique or sell over the Internet, La Poste believes.
