Expanding reach of la Poste – An article from Post Express July 2001
Spain and India are the latest countries to extend ties with La Poste after Correos y Telegrafos agreed to increase its cooperation with the French, and Paris became the hub of an Indo-European parcel venture. Alberto Nunez Feijoo, general manager of Correos y Telegrafos, and Martin Vial, chairman of the La Poste group, have both pledged to “enhance their cooperation in order to consolidate their joint position in the Spanish express parcels market”, said La Poste in a statement.
According to the strategic agreement, the posts will combine all their national and
international express parcels activities within a single network in Spain. The deal
will see the Spanish post office contribute its B2C express parcel service to the joint
company in addition to the B2B service already provided by the ‘Chronopost Express Spain’ joint venture created by Correos y Telegrafos International in 1999. The new company, ChronoExpres will be run by the Spanish post. “The aim of this agreement,” according to Nunez Feij oo, “is to improve the position of Correos y Telegrafos both nationally and internationally in the express parcels market in order to fulfil customers’ expectations more successfully.”
Correos y Telegrafos also hopes to gain between 12 and 15 per cent of the Spanish market within three years thanks to this partnership, thus becomitg one of the three leading operators in Spain and playtheir joint ing a leading role in e-commerce.
Martin Vial, chairman of the La Poste group said the firm had attracted partners, including the Italian post office because of the capacity of both its European and international network.
La Poste has also teamed up with India Post to develop and market International Express Post for guaranteed and faster delivery between India and Europe. In this connection, Mumbai will function as the hub for India and Paris will be the hub for Europe. This decision was taken at the Indo-French joint committee on Posts and Telecommunications which met in Paris recently.
