DPD builds on B2C growth with iloxx acquisition
DPD in Germany has announced the acquisition of B2C logistics specialist iloxx for an undisclosed sum. Based in Nuremburg, iloxx offers a range of shipping services from the delivery of standard parcels right across to the specialised shipping of sensitive and bulky goods.
All shipping services can be accessed through the company’s own internet portal in the form of a one-stop shop solution, the company said. iloxx has around 700,000 private and 70,000 business customers.
During the 2010 financial year, the company made record revenues of EUR 29.4m, a 15% increase on its turnover for the previous year. Around 75 % of company sales came via B2C operations, with iloxx adding that it handled more than four million shipments last year.
DPD Germany – the second largest express operator in the country – believes the acquisition will help aid its growth across the B2C sector.
Commenting on the news, DPD CEO Arnold Schroven said: “As an innovative provider of logistics services for both private and business customers iloxx AG is highly attractive to us.
“Our customers in the B2B and B2C segments appreciate our flexible product portfolio, outstanding network and reliability, as well as the value for money we provide. We expect continued growth in online and mail order shipping, and with iloxx AG we will have access to further growth areas in the B2C segment which will enable us to widen our business base.”
Founded by managers Volker Hofmann and Matthias Emmel in 1999, iloxx now has a workforce of 118 employees. Hofmann said: “We welcome DPD’s decision and are pleased to be able to guarantee the employment of all our personnel.”
Schroven confirmed that both Hofmann and Emmel will continue to manage the company, with DPD taking over all of iloxx’s shipping volumes in the parcel segment.
