Singapore Post boosts regional presence with second air hub
Singapore Post has opened its second regional airfreight hub at Changi Airport. The SingPost Airmail Transit Centre 2 at the Changi Airfreight Centre provides expanded facilities to help SingPost handle higher volumes, the company said yesterday.
The company is experiencing high growth in its regional mail volumes, and is setting itself up as a major transit hub for the Asia-Pacific region, given its strategic location.
Its SingPost ATC 1 has been operating since April 2003, processing international mail, packages, parcels and express items.
The new facility provides more than 2,000 square metres of extra space and has seen processing speeds tripling to provide faster transit times for deliveries.
Both of SingPost’s regional hubs are operating on a 24-hour basis.
Ng Hin Lee, CEO for postal and corporate services at SingPost, said the company had been experiencing low-double digit growth in outbound and inbound items in the first seven months of the year, compared to the same period in 2010.
“With this new ATC 2, we will have the additional capacity to handle higher traffic voulme efficiently and expediously,” he said.
“Additionally, with the enhanced capacity we will be able to meet the anticipated surge in shipment volumes for the coming year-end peak.”
The new air hub will help with SingPost’s regional ambitions and its growth plans in the e-commerce segment.
The company has been making various acquisitions this year to boost its logistics presence in Southeast Asia and target China’s important e-commerce market.
“Given Singapore’s strategic location, we are well-positioned to be the transit hub for the Asia Pacific region.” said the SingPost postal services CEO. “With the expanded facilities, we will be able to cater to greater volumes of shipments and grow our transit mail further.”
