SingPost offers discounted "treats" at post office kiosks
Singapore Post has come up with a tasty way to encourage people to make use of its 24-hour self-service post office kiosks. The company has linked up with a number of partners in the food and beverage industry to make special-offer vouchers available at its Self-service Automated Machines (SAMs) when people are there paying bills or carrying out other postal transactions.
The initiative dubbed “Treats@SAM” allows customers to buy vouchers at the machines, which could offer discounts for up to 50% on certain foods, drinks or restaurant meals.
The company has been testing out the service since July, with partners that include premium ice cream maker Andersen’s of Denmark, sushi restaurant Hei Sushi and Peranakan restaurant Chilli Padi.
Loh Choo Beng, executive vice president for retail and financial services, explained that the initiative was all about broadening SingPost’s retail network into a “lifestyle hub” for consumers.
“Treats@SAM is a new initiative launched by SingPost to complement our strategy of transforming our retail network into a lifestyle hub,” he said. “It has made us one of the first, if not the first, in Singapore to cross-sell food and beverage treats through a self-service kiosk.”
This month, SingPost has added to its line-up this with vouchers from Japanese restaurants Ajisen, AOBA and Kazokutei.
SingPost said it was limiting its customers to purchasing three vouchers during any single transaction. Most purchased vouchers will be valid for up to a month from date of purchase.
Lifestyle hubs
The Singapore postal service now has more than 300 of its SAM machines across the Republic, which make use of touchscreen technology and allow customers to weigh packages, buy stamps and pay bills or parking fines, as well as an array of other services from purchasing airline tickets and cinema tickets to topping up mobile phone accounts.
Loh said: “Over the years, SAM has evolved from dispensing stamp labels and accepting bill payments to remitting money and more.
“Moving along with the times, we will continue to expand our billers network and enhance SAM services to better meet the diverse needs of our customers,” added the SingPost executive VP for retail and financial services.
