Deutsche Post reliability dispute

According to research presented by competitors of Deutsche Post, the post’s staff are working more slowly than the company admits. The research claims that letters posted in the late afternoon or evening have a low chance of being delivered the next day. Deutsche Post said the test covered such a small sample that it could not be taken seriously.
The German post and telecoms regulator has also called the figures into question and concluded, through its own research, that only 86.7 per cent of letters in 2000 were delivered the day after being posted.
However, head of Deutsche Post, Klaus Zumwinkel, maintained that 95 of 100 letters reached their destination the next day, according to research by an independent market research institute. The figure shows that Deutsche Post staff are fast, and that German postage prices, which are higher than the European average, are justified, he stated.
