Mark Donnellan to spearhead DPD UK’s Olympics strategy
Parcel delivery company DPD UK has appointed Mark Donnellan to develop a strategy to minimise disruption to its services during this summer’s London Olympics. The parcel and express delivery company said up to 800,000 extra people are expected in the UK capital every day during the 2012 Olympics, which begins on 27 July.
As a result, it said there is likely to be extra traffic congestion and parking restrictions that will cause “major” challenges for all delivery companies.
DPD UK, part of La Poste’s European parcels group GeoPost, said Donnellan has been appointed 2012 Olympics Project Manager, and will work closely with the managers of DPD’s eight depots in and around London regarding the event, which runs through to the end of the Paralympic Games on 9 September.
Donnellan, who has industry experience including senior logistics positions at Monsoon, Next and Exel, will also represent DPD in dealing with municipal transport agency Transport for London and the Olympic Delivery Authority.
DPD London regional manager Steve Woodman, to whom Donnellan will report, said: “Continuity of service will be crucial to both shippers and receivers during the Olympics and I am confident that Mark’s project management skills and logistics experience will stand us in good stead for the challenges ahead.”
DPD UK employs 4,200 people in the UK and Ireland, operating more than 1,700 vehicles from more than 40 locations.
