Correos Chile backs government bid to cut delayed payments

Correos Chile has joined a government initiative encouraging businesses in Chile to make their payments to suppliers within 30 days. The Sello ProPyme initiative has been set up by the Ministry of Economics and Tourism as an effort to boost economic development within Chile, particularly among small businesses.

At today’s launch of the initiative, Chile’s president Sebastián Piñera said the initiative should create “better habits” among the country’s businesses, opening the door to economic growth among small and medium-sized companies.

“Bearing these costs is a major constraint to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to grow and develop,” said Pinera.

The Sello ProPyme initiative is based on a “Pro-SME” seal, under which companies are certified when pledging to provide quick payments to their suppliers. CorreosChile is among 50 companies signed up to the seal at its launch.

Pablo Montané, general manager at the Chilean postal service, said: “We are convinced that the way to Chile’s development will be achieved through advances made in the areas of entrepreneurship and innovation. We are very pleased to be part of this seal.”
