Swiss Post Solutions sets UK staff sustainability challenge

Swiss Post Solutions is taking part in one of Britain’s biggest climate change campaigns next month, by setting its employees a sustainability challenge. In the run-up to Climate Week, which takes place 12-18 March, the global business services division of Swiss Post will be running a competition for its staff to come forward with the best sustainability initiatives they have delivered to clients.

The competition will take in all SPS locations in the UK and Ireland, tying in with the company’s “Focus 5” programme, which aims to drive sustainability improvements in five areas – efficiency, carbon reduction, partnership, low-impact living and social involvement.

The Focus 5 programme has been in place for a year now, supporting the SPS commitment for sustainability to be a central part of its business strategy.

The Climate Week competition will see five SPS teams shortlisted for delivering the best green projects, with the successful teams then set a special challenge on March 12.

Swiss Post Solutions’ Max Luff says the competition recognises the efforts of staff and highlights good practices

Max Luff, sustainability manager at Swiss Post Solutions, said: “Sustainability has become a central part of our business strategy with strong senior management support for our Focus 5 programme.

“The competition provides us with an opportunity to seek out and share sound sustainability practices and innovative ideas, and to recognise employees and client sites taking a dynamic approach to environmental and social issues,” added Luff.

Britain’s Climate Week initiative saw 500,000 people involved in 3,000 events last year, with schools, businesses, charities, municipal authorities and others taking part in action raising awareness of climate change and sustainability.

The SPS Climate Week contest will see a judging panel comprising Siemens UK & NW Europe head of sustainability Ian Bowman and SPS UK and Ireland CEO Jonathan King assessing entries on criteria including team work, impact on the environment, innovation and progress achieved.
