Growth at Hermes UK online parcel portal “gathering pace”

Parcel delivery company Hermes UK has said it has now delivered 2m parcels from shipments ordered through its online delivery platform myhermes.co.uk. After the website’s first million parcels were delivered in 12 months up to June last year, Leeds-based Hermes UK said the second million came in just nine months.

The website allows consumers and smaller online retail merchants such as eBay Powersellers and Amazon Marketplace sellers to order shipments, from direct doorstep collection to final delivery without having to go to a post office.

Deliveries start at GBP 3.30 including tax for items under a kilogram in weight for a three-to-five day transit time, with items collected and delivered six days a week across the UK.

Hermes said this Christmas saw volumes doubling during the busiest week, with more than 60,000 parcels handled in a single day.

The company awarded a GBP 50 voucher from the Love 2 Shop ecommerce incentive and loyalty programme to the sender of its two millionth parcel, a Lincoln-based eBay trader who has been using the service for over a year.

Jon Tobbell, commercial director at Hermes UK, said: “This latest milestone recognises the appeal of the service, especially amongst online traders and nice retailers.

“The growth of myhermes.co.uk is really gathering pace as more and more consumers and small businesses are realising the benefits they can achieve in terms of cost savings, convenience and reliability when compared to other services in the marketplace,” added Tobbell.

Hermes UK currently handles more than 140m collections and delivery each year, including its contract work for large retailers like Next Directory, ASOS, Debenhams and Tesco.
