Chronopost opens express logistics depot in south-east France
La Poste’s express unit Chronopost has opened a new branch in the Var area of the French Riviera. The new EUR 350,000 facility at the Capititou industrial area, close to Fréjus, handles the collection and distribution of around 4,500 parcels a day, dispatched in 35 rounds.
It has been established as part of an expansion of capacity designed to cope with expected 8% growth in volumes this year, and also optimise delivery routes in the area.
Chronopost relocated its operations from up the coast in Mougins to the new site, offering close proximity to the A8 motorway to serve a “thriving” region.
The company said the new 7,500 square foot site would help particularly strengthen its presence in the electronics, fittings and perfume sectors, but would also optimise freight operations and improve the reliability of services, including deliveries made before 8am, 9am or 10am.
Remo Serra, the branch manager at the Fréjus site said the optimised operations would be particularly valuable during the summer months, when traffic in the entire coastal area was more difficult.
“The location of the new site allows us to optimise our network connections with regional hubs in Carbas, Marignane and Montpellier as well as to the facility in Nice,” said Serra.
“Also, reducing the number of kilometres traveled will help towards reducing our carbon dioxide emissions in line with measures taken by Chronopost through its sustainable development policy,” added Serra.
