UK Post Office makes its debut in home insurance market

The Post Office is to launch a low-cost home insurance product as part of its crusade to position itself as a consumer champion.

The product, branded Post Office Home Insurance, will be a low-cost contents insurance package aimed at consumers who rent properties and those who do not need high-value cover.

The package, which launches next month, will be The Post Office’s debut in the home insurance sector. It is likely to be backed by a campaign created by Publicis and Joshua, the Post Office’s advertising and direct marketing agencies of record.

The launch comes as the Post Office unveils research by Millward Brown, showing that more than 80% of consumers consider the Post Office a more trustworthy brand than Marks & Spencer and British Gas.

Last week the Post Office’s parent company, Consignia, reacted angrily to proposals by regulator Postcomm to open the market to competition.
