Canada Post relies on its retail network to deliver a record one million parcels in one day
With seven days left before Christmas Day, Canada Post expects to deliver another 4.4 million parcels to 15.1 million addresses across the country by the evening of December 24.
“Achieving this milestone confirms that we are successfully repositioning Canada Post to serve the emerging needs of Canadians,” says Jacques Côté, Group President of the Physical Delivery Network at Canada Post. “Our investments in modern equipment, flexible and motorised delivery methods, Community Mail and Parcel Boxes are paying off, and so is the enhanced tracking that gives customers peace of mind their item is on its way, or safely arrived, or ready for pickup at a nearby post office. Our strategy is to build Canada Post as the No.1 choice for home delivery by Canadians.”
An estimated $8 billion worth of physical goods is ordered online in Canada each year for residential deliveries, a figure forecasted to grow to more than $15 billion by 2016.
In recent years, Canada Post has made unprecedented investments in new equipment to enhance the end-to-end online shopping experience. The 2012 holiday season extends well beyond the traditional Christmas rush, since Canadians and online retailers will also rely heavily on Canada Post’s nearly 6,500 retail outlets for hassle-free, convenient and efficient handling of the gifts they return to retailers after Christmas and the expected rush of Boxing Day sales.
