Swedish Posten is establishing itself in Europe

Posten AB is on the offensive with business agreements, company acquisitions and the development or services within the transportation and logistics sector. The agreement with La Poste is providing Posten with access to a logistics network for the whole of Europe including the N4ordic and Baltic regions.
In that network Posten will be able to exhibit a broad and deep competence in the entire spectrum pertaining to the management of the flow of goods from order to delivery supported by a number of E-services. Together these serve to establish Posten’s solutions for E-commerce and logistics as a prototype for the whole industry
The agreement with the French La Poste provides Posten with access to one of the largest networks for parcel deliveries in Europe.
“In the long term this implies a doubling of todays turnover of MSEK 4,000 within the logistics sector, says Björn Sjöström, Head of Posten ABs Business Unit for E-commerce and Logistics.
The agreement provides Posten with access to franchise rights for La Poste’s subsidiary company, DPD (Direct Parcel Distribution) in Scandinavia and the Baltic region. Thanks to Chronopost, La Poste’s other subsidiary, Posten will also have access to an international express network, allied with FedEx.
The agreement is complemented by the purchase of Danish DSVs parcel operations, DPD Finland and 50% of the DFDS-owned Norwegian Tollpost Globe. in Sweden, Posten will be taking over parcel operations from the DFDS-owned Fraktarna.
Posten is also strengthening its market for system transportation by its purchase of the Dutch companies, Starintex Road Cargo and Gendringen Expeditie. With this, Posten will be able to offer fast and continuous nightly system transportation to fixed recipient addresses within and between ten European countries in addition to the Nordic region. System transportation often implies that the driver unlocks and unloads the goods on customer premises before the personnel have even begun their working day.
“Posten will now be a serious competitor as regards the flows of imports and exports,” emphasizes Björn Sjoström.
“For customers, the new network will entail an improved system of track and trace, uniform freight documentation, better cost efficiency and improved quality for suppliers within the whole of Europe.”

A combination of physical and electronic services Posten is already the market leader in Sweden within the parcel market with well-known services and its flagship, Foretagspaket (Business Parcels). In the Baltic Region, Poland and Russia, Posten has operations for parcel distribution corresponding to Foretagspa ket. Posten also has the Nordic Region’s most modern logistics center for third-party logistics located in Gothenhurg. From here you can easily reach all markets in the whole of the Nordic region, the Baltic region and Northern Europe. In addition to storage management, customers also receive assistance via the logistics center during the entire business process. Naturally, all of these services do not solely deal with transportation. The entire flow of goods and information is also affected. Posten helps customers create effective solutions for the combination of physical and electronic flows.
— “Posten administers an almost unique competence when it comes to tying together different standards and systems with our EDI services and we are internationally a leader within electronic
security with Posten's electronic ID cards,” says Björn Sjöström. He also calls attention to Posten’s Hosting and Internet Payment Services.
