Getting ready for work
Royal Mail is helping students prepare for the world of work through a new partnership with the Career Ready charity. Royal Mail is inviting staff members to become mentors through Career Ready’s structured programme for 16-19 year olds, which sits alongside the students’ school or college coursework. The initiative is designed to help students unlock their potential as they start their journey from education to the workplace.
Mentors will be matched with a student and meet up with them over a 12-month period to offer support and advice for transitioning into the workplace, making informed decisions about their future aspirations and improving their employability skills.
Royal Mail is aiming to engage 50 employees across the country as mentors in the first year of its partnership with Career Ready.
Lily Heinemann, Royal Mail Head of Corporate Responsibility and Community Investment, said: “Mentoring can provide invaluable guidance and support to young people and our staff can draw on their diverse experiences and backgrounds to help make a difference to the lives of the UK’s future workers.”
