Doddle set to open latest parcel store in Canary Wharf

Doddle has announced that it will be opening its latest parcel store in London’s Canary Wharf financial district this week. The company said that the announcement is a timely one – as many employers have recently decided to ban staff from having their online purchases delivered to the workplace because of the strain that this places on corporate mailrooms.

Matt Maer, Director Group Security, Canary Wharf Group, commented: “One Canada Square alone receives 450 deliveries every 24 hours, and 11,000 parcels or letters are delivered every month for 10,000 people. We estimate about 30% of these are personal packages which adds to the cost of managing a service at such high volumes.

“On top of the time required to sort the incoming parcels, each one must also go through the necessary security processing. This in itself is a labour and time intensive exercise. I expect the new Doddle store at Canary Wharf will be very attractive to large employers and landlords wanting to reduce the growing overheads attached to mailrooms.”

The new store will enable Canary Wharf workers, visitors and residents to receive or send their personal deliveries as well as return unwanted online purchases for free with Doddle’s retail partners.

Tim Robinson, Doddle CEO, said: “We have had an overwhelming amount of interest in the new Canary Wharf store from both corporates looking to reduce their mailroom costs and offer employees a useful benefit but also from retailers with large delivery volumes to the area.

“We anticipate this store will be one of our busiest yet. Existing Doddle customers have been asking us for months when we would open in Canary Wharf. Time poor professionals and commuters in high density areas are one of Doddle’s biggest customer segments and we look forward to making parcels a seamless experience for people in Canary Wharf.”

Meanwhile, Doddle also announced today (12 August) that it will be extending the new Doddle Runner service to Canary Wharf at the end of this month. As previously reported, Doddle launched the service in London’s EC1-EC4 district last week. The Doddle Runner app enables consumers to take a picture of what they want to send or return, then add the delivery address or select which retailer they want to return it to. A Doddle Runner will arrive within the hour to collect the parcel.
