Amazon to open fifth Texas fulfilment centre

Amazon plans to open its fifth Texas fulfilment centre in San Marcos. Amazon currently has fulfilment centres up and running in Schertz, Coppell and Haslet, and another facility is being built in Dallas.

In an official statement about the San Marcos centre issued on Thursday (20 August), Amazon said that it currently employs more than 3,500 full-time associates in Texas, and has invested more than $400m in the state.

The new 855,000 square-foot San Marcos fulfilment centre will mainly handle smaller customer items, such as books, electronics and toys.

“We have found a dedicated and enthusiastic workforce in Texas that has supported our growth throughout the state,” said Mike Roth, Amazon’s vice president of North American operations. “Additionally, over 350 Amazon associates, managers and support staff in Texas come from military backgrounds. These individuals bring valuable leadership skills, experiences and problem-solving abilities to our fulfilment centre – it’s a great match on both sides.”
