Zalando to build new fulfilment centre
Online fashion retailer Zalando will start building a new fulfilment centre in Lahr in October. The 130,000 square metre facility will be Zalando’s fourth self-operating logistics centre in Germany.
In a statement issued on Friday (18 September), the company commented: “This will allow Zalando to serve customers in Southern Germany, Switzerland and France even faster, and to meet the further increasing demand for ecommerce.
“Test operations for the new site are planned for as early as autumn 2016. Zalando plans to create about 1,000 jobs at the site located in the Upper Rhine region.”
Zalando also has two 125,000 square metre logistics centres in Erfurt and Mönchengladbach, and a 25,000 square metre facility in Brieselang.
As reported by Post&Parcel last week, Zalando is currently trialing same-day deliveries in Berlin and Cologne. And earlier this month, Zalando announced the launch of its “My Returns” service.
According to a statement issued by Zalando on 4 September: “With the launch of My Returns, the returns process for Zalando customers becomes even more convenient: They can now return their Zalando order using the My Returns ‘On Demand’ 60 minute courier collection service the same day or the next day among a selected one-hour time slot. During the trial period, which is taking place in London until October 18th, Zalando customers can use My Returns for free.”
