Royal Mail opening ten temporary parcel sort centres for Christmas surge
Royal Mail is opening ten temporary parcel sort centres to help manage the surge in volumes over the Christmas period. This is the fifth year that Royal Mail has opened a dedicated network of parcel sort centres.
The parcel sort centres are in Bathgate in West Lothian, Bradford, Leyland in Lancashire, Wolverhampton, Newport in Gwent, Swindon, Greenford, Peterborough, Bletchley in Milton Keynes and Heathrow. The centres will open on a phased basis from Monday (2 November).
Around 3,000 seasonal workers will be based in the parcel sort centres. They will support Royal Mail’s permanent 123,000 postmen and women who sort and deliver the mail all year round. Royal Mail Group is taking on around 19,000 seasonal workers in total this year across its operations.
Royal Mail has set up a dedicated website (www.royalmailgroup.com/xmasjobs) for people to apply for the positions in the centres and at other sites across the UK.
