South Korea’s Coupang set to expand delivery network

South Korean e-commerce player Coupang is planning to invest more than $1bn over the next two years to expand its delivery network, according to local sources. Coupang CEO Kim Bom was reported as saying: “Since we launched our own delivery system, Rocket Delivery, in March 2014, we have been investing significantly to expand it. We will increase the number of our delivery personnel to 40,000 and operate 21 warehouses across the country by 2017.”

Currently, Coupang is reported to have 14 warehouses and employ about 3,500 delivery workers, as well as 6,000 staff working in its logistics and customer service centres.

The Coupang CEO added: “We seek to build Korea’s most extensive, efficiently-operating nationwide logistics network. Through Rocket Delivery, we can offer customers the fastest and the most reliable delivery services in the country.”
