OIG looking for experts who can identify revenue opportunities in the USPS brand

The United States Postal Service (USPS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) is looking to award a contract to a supplier who can help identify the revenue opportunities in “licensing or selling” the USPS brand. In a notice posted on the federal business opportunities website FedBizOpps.Gov on Tuesday (8 December), the OIG said that proposals must be received no later than Wednesday, 23 December at 12:00 PM ET and it anticipated that the contract will be awarded on or before Friday, 8 January 2016. (The notice actually said 8 January 2015, but we assume that this was a typographical error.)

Working with Premier Quantitative Consulting (PQC), the OIG has established what it describes as a “conservative” valuation for the USPS brand of $3.6bn. In January this year, the OIG and PQC produced a white paper, The Value of the U.S. Postal Service Brand, which summarised their findings.

As part of its research work, PQC also suggested some ways the USPS could “further enhance” its brand. These included “expand licensing activities” – which has presumably sparked the solicitation issued on 8 December.
