Hermes reports record Christmas performance

The Hermes Group has announced today (21 January) that it notched up a record Christmas period performance in December 2015, handle 25% more parcels than it did in 2014. Hermes said that the record volume was driven by e-commerce, and its ability to meet the extra demand was down to the “excellent preparations” that were made across the Hermes European partner network.

In Germany, which remains the biggest market for Hermes, the company handled 36.6m shipments in December – which was 15% up on the previous year. The Mannheim, Frankfurt and Regensburg branches were particularly busy.

In Austria, Hermes saw its parcel volumes increase by around 20%. The company flagged up the contribution of its recently-introduced parcel shops.

In the UK, Hermes handled around 30.3m packages in December, which was up 24% on the previous year. As previously reported by Post&Parcel, Hermes said that the investment that it had made in its UK infrastructure over the past year – which included an expansion of its Warrington hub – had increased its capacity and enabled it to manage the surge in volumes.
