Shopify teams up with Postmates for same-day delivery service
Retailers which use Shopify software to create their online storefronts are now able to offer a Postmates same-day delivery option to their customers in around 200 cities across the US. The Shopify/Postmates integration went live on Tuesday (3 May).
In a notice on its blog, Shopify said that deliveries would be made “often in as little as an hour”, and it also told retailers that there were extra benefits: “With Shopify and Postmates, you and your customers can track the order from from pickup to drop off. You can keep track of the order in real-time right from Shopify, and your customers will be emailed a link to Postmates live map so they can keep track, too.”
The “200 cities” figure relates to Postmates’ current geographic coverage in the US, but the company has indicated that it plans to expand further. It has even suggested that it may be looking to set up outposts in Europe – with the UK being the most likely first port of call.
Offering a same-day delivery service in other countries would be a popular move with Shopify’s international retailers. It was noticeable that many of the comments attached to the Shopify/Postmates blog announcement were from non-US retailers asking for a similar service in their markets.
