Amazon plans new fulfilment centres for Illinois and Texas

Amazon has announced plans to open a new fulfilment centre in Monee, Illinois. The new 850,000-square-foot facility will primarily be used as small items such as books, electronics and consumer goods.

In a statement issued yesterday (29 August), Akash Chauhan, vice president of Amazon’s North America Operations, said: “We place our fulfilment centres close to customers to provide the fastest possible delivery times, and the growth in Illinois is directly tied to our increasing customer demand.”

Last Thursday (25 August), Amazon also announced plans to open its eighth fulfilment centre in the state of Texas. This new facility will be the second FC to be located in Coppell.

Amazon has five fulfilment centres already up and running in Texas. These include facilities in Haslet, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Schertz, as well as Coppell. The company also has upcoming facilities in San Marcos and Houston which are currently under construction.
