GB Railfreight reportedly planning Yorkshire-London parcel rail service
GB Railfreight is reportedly looking to use re-purposed Intercity 125 trains to offer a parcel delivery service between Doncaster and London. According to a report published by the Financial Times today (8 February), Duncan Clark, GB Railfreight’s director of strategic development, revealed the plans at the annual conference of the Rail Delivery Group.
The new service could be operational from early 2018, according to the Financial Times.
Each Intercity 125 carriage (with the passenger seats removed) will be able to carry as many parcels as six road trucks, Clark was quoted as saying.
The Financial Times article said that Tim Robinson, the chief executive of Doddle, had confirmed that his company has been working with GB Railfreight on a potential plan to use the rail network to provide a same-day delivery service on behalf of e-retailers.
