UK Royal Mail survey results
Survey results released today by Communication Managers Section of Amicus, the union for managers and professionals in Royal Mail, found that management staff believe that the organisation continues to lack the skills, direction and leadership to cope with the challenges it faces. The Royal Mail is currently awaiting finalisation of postal services regulator Postcomm’s price control proposals and the introduction of competition.
The survey was carried 1600 managers and senior managers across the UK.
The survey provides fresh evidence that Royal Mail is not yet able to effectively compete with other postal operators while maintaining a universal service in its current form with the same price and quality of service throughout the country.
Key findings of the survey include:
– Only 52% of senior managers feel that Royal Mail is capable of meeting the challenges it faces
– 77% of managers and senior managers (2002 – 85%) ad believe that Royal Mail does not have the right leadership to meet the challenges it faces
– 64% of senior managers (2002 – 70%) and 76% of managers generally believe that Royal Mail does not have the right direction to meet the challenges it faces
– 60% of managers and senior managers (2002 – 56%) and believe that Royal Mail does not have the right level of skills to meet the challenges it faces
Peter Skyte, Amicus National Secretary, said, “This survey shows that the new top management team has much to do to win the confidence of its own managers and senior managers. There is a very real need for Royal Mail to listen to the voice of its managers and senior managers who have a pivotal role in meeting the challenge of change.”
